Bernadette Reyes
Bernadette Reyes is a Senior Voting Rights Counsel at the UCLA Voting Rights Project. Bernadette believes that representation of all citizens is the cornerstone of our democracy that can only be achieved through free and fair elections. Bernadette Reyes litigates voting rights and redistricting cases and supports policy and research efforts to support these rights at a federal, state, and local level. Prior to coming to the UCLA VRP, Bernadette worked as a trial and later writ attorney with the public interest organization, Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers, Inc. As a trial attorney, she advocated in court daily on behalf of parents in juvenile dependency proceedings and sought to reunite families safely. She continued this work on the appellate level, arguing cases in front of the California Court of Appeal. While there, she also advocated for policy changes to ensure fairness and equity in California’s dependency system.
She holds a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and her B.A. from Dartmouth College. Bernadette joined the UCLA VRP in 2022.
