Cecilia Nuñez
CECILIA NUÑEZ (she/her) is a rising second-year pursuing a concurrent Masters in Social Welfare and Public Policy at UCLA Luskin. As an incoming policy fellow within the UCLA LPPI Research Department, Cecilia is passionate about Latinx and Black communities in the county, including through expanding alternatives to incarceration and social supports.
At UCLA, Cecilia serves as an Executive member of the Luskin Black Caucus and advocates for social welfare and policy work grounded in abolition. She recently completed a summer internship through the Luskin Leadership Fellowship with La Defensa and the Reimagine Los Angeles Coalition, fighting to move county funding out of prisons and into community-based care. Last academic year, she served as an MSW Intern with Hope Street Family Center, where she worked with DCFS-involved children and families on achieving their goals, and provided youth therapy.
As a San Gabriel-native, Cecilia enjoys completing her graduate studies here in her home communities and serving Angelinos. Prior to UCLA, she obtained her Bachelors in History and Literature with a focus in Afro-Latin American studies at Harvard University. There, she learned more about the role of race and political mobilization in Latin American history, and has enjoyed applying this lens to her work.
