Chelsea Jones
Chelsea N. Jones is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Latino Politics and Policy Initiative and Ph.D. student in the Political Science Department at UCLA. Chelsea’s work is fueled by the desire to see racial equity in every policy, especially those that limit the electoral influence of marginalized people. Her background is in social policy, having obtained a master’s degree in Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. As a former policy fellow at the National League of Cities, Chelsea has worked with various local government bodies to conduct equity analyses on city policies and train government employees to apply a critical race lens to their institutional practices. At LPPI, Chelsea combines her personal and professional background with her data analysis skills to produce research that examines the disparate impact of restrictive electoral policies on Black and Latino communities. Her work at LPPI aligns with her doctoral research on voter disenfranchisement in jurisdictions previously covered by the Voting Rights Act. Chelsea’s research is supported by the Eugene V. Cota Robles Fellowship and the American Political Science Association Minority Fellowship.
