Desiree Plascencia
DESIREE PLASCENCIA (she/her/hers) is a junior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Public Affairs. As an incoming fellow in the research department, she is eager to apply her diverse skill set and multicultural perspective to conduct research, ultimately contributing to the development of informed immigration policies.
Desiree’s academic journey at UCLA has been marked by a commitment to understanding the complexities of immigration policy and its impact on society. Her passion for research stems from her experience as a data analyst for various small companies, where she sharpened her analytical skills and discovered her passion for research. Her passion for social justice and human rights advocacy extends beyond the classroom. She has actively engaged with various community organizations and advocacy groups like CHIRLA (The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles) and AO4E (Angelenos Organizing For Education) advocating for just and equitable immigration policies.
Desiree is the proud daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and Guatemala and grew up in South Central, CA.
