Juan Carlos Ruiz Malagon
JUAN CARLOS RUIZ MALAGON, M.S., M.A. (he/him/they) is a first-year Doctoral student in Public Health at UC Irvine. As a returning Fellow within the UCLA LPPI Research Department, Juan specializes in qualitative research methods and has a strong interest in health, migration, and racialization impact on health outcomes.
During his time at Stanford University, Juan completed a Master of Science in Community Health and Prevention Research and served as a Health Justice Programs Fellow through the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California. Prior to graduate school, Juan volunteered at a UC Davis student-run free clinic called Clinica Tepati, providing primary healthcare to underserved and uninsured populations. Their professional and personal experiences drive them to work towards equitable healthcare systems through research and community engagement.
Juan Carlos migrated to the U.S. at an early age and identifies as a first-generation and low-income college graduate. They are the first person in their family to attend college and obtain graduate degrees.
