Karina Solano
KARINA SOLANO (she/her/hers) is a senior majoring in Sociology and double minoring in Public Affairs and Community Engagement & Social Change. She is an incoming LPPI Policy Fellow passionate about advocating for her Latine community through her interest in housing and education policy, with the aim of reducing disparities for low-income communities like her own.
Karina is currently a mentor for first-generation Latine students from East San Jose and a co-executive of UCLA BruinHope, a volunteer community at UCLA focused on promoting equitable education and wellness resources for orphanages in Tijuana. This past summer she was selected as a 2023 Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellow and interned with the Office of San Jose Councilmember Peter Ortiz. Previously, Karina helped run a housing relief fund initiative and a textbook grant program for marginalized students at UCLA in two student government positions to promote equity and inclusion on campus.
Karina is a proud daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and grew up in San Jose, CA.
