PAULA NAZARIO is a second-year Master of Public Policy student at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and a Monica Salinas Fellow. She is a first-generation college student and holds a B.A. in Political Science with a double minor in Education and Civic Engagement Studies from UCLA. Prior to Luskin, Paula worked in the nonprofit sector and assisted first-generation students with the college application process and as undergrad she engaged in research to elevate the voices of underrepresented communities. Paula’s policy interests are in social and higher education policy, with the hope of increasing college access and making the systems of higher education more equitable for low-income students. While at the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute, Paula co-authored the report “Latinas Exiting The Workforce: How The Pandemic Revealed Historic Disadvantages And Heightened Economic Hardship,” which examined the 2020 loss in labor for Latinas and highlighted pre-existing disparities exacerbated by COVID-19.
