In response to the Biden Administration’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court, UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute Founding Director Sonja Diaz issued the following statement:
“Today is a historic day for America. For the first time our country will have a Black woman, who is one of the most qualified legal minds in our nation, seated at the highest court in the land.
“Judge Jackson will not only bring unmatched legal acumen to the role, but also critical insight gained through her lived and professional experiences at a crucial moment where our nation confronts constitutional threats to the ballot box, our bodies and unequal access to justice. Judge Jackson’s addition to the Court will work to ensure that the dignity and fundamental rights of all Americans are protected.
“We applaud President Biden’s nomination and know that it will promote greater credibility of our courts and uphold the integrity of our democratic institutions.”
