UCLA LPPI Secures $1.2 Million Grant from The James Irvine Foundation

The UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI) has received a grant of $1.2 million from The James Irvine Foundation to finance research that informs policy reforms that can reduce racial/ethnic and gender inequalities that hinder the economic mobility of Latino workers in California.

UCLA LPPI Secures $1.2 Million Grant from The James Irvine Foundation

LOS ANGELES (December 19, 2023) – The UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI) has received a grant of $1.2 million from The James Irvine Foundation to finance research that informs policy reforms that can reduce racial/ethnic and gender inequalities that hinder the economic mobility of Latino workers in California. The grant follows a previous grant of $750,000 from the Foundation, which supported UCLA LPPI’s research on the impacts of COVID-19 on Latino workers.

“We believe that policy transformation must include a community-informed research agenda, and what excites me most is that this funding will allow us to launch a train-the-trainer program through our Latino Data Hub Action Labs,” said Rodrigo Dominguez-Villegas director of research at UCLA LPPI. “The goal of these labs is encapsulated through the “DNA” framework – where participants will learn the specifics of Data collection and analysis, how to use data for Narrative change, and how to leverage data to catalyze Action that leads to positive outcomes for Latino and other communities of color that make up the state’s workforce.”

“With the commitment and support of The Irvine Foundation, we are poised to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools they need to advance economic mobility and reduce inequalities among workers in California,” continued Belen Flores, project policy analyst at UCLA LPPI.
